McCarter presents an examination of the work, design conceptions, favored materials, and methods of construction employed by renowned Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. The author has organized the book thematically, combining text concerning the subject with color photographs of the architects work, and reproductions of his drawings. Themes addressed include modern architecture on another path, Mediterranean light and Arctic night, and towards a natural functionalism.
