This book examines how people felt during the hardest times of the pandemic. Exploring the experience of Syrian refugees, the connection between the pandemic and food, and the consequences of major risks in the network society, it discusses the relationships between emotions, vulnerability, poverty, and power in the pre- and post-COVID-19 contexts. The book considers the diverse faces of the pandemic and its consequences, showing it to be an indicator of the vulnerability of various groups of people, while also detailing how medical protocols, statistics, and scientific rationality have replaced the usual market rationality.
Adrian Scribano is Director of the Centre for Sociological Research and Studies and Principal Researcher at the National Scientific and Technological Research Council, Argentina. He is also the Director of the Latin American Journal of Studies on Bodies, Emotions and Society and the Study Group on Sociology of Emotions and Bodies in the Gino Germani Research Institute at the University of Buenos Aires.Juan A. Roche Cįrcel is Professor of Sociology at the University of Alicante, Spain. His publications include Between the Mount of Apollo and the Vine of Dionysus. Nature, Gods and Society in the Theater Architecture of Ancient Greece (2016); The Vanishing Society (2012); Transitions. The Fragility of Democracy (2016); and Spaces and Uncertain Times of Culture (2007), among others. He is currently the President of the Committee of Sociology of Emotions of the Federación Espańola de Sociologķa.
