During the 1980s, John M. Fossey directed excavations at the site of Khostia in Central Greece. This volume is part of a continuing series of field reports from that project and includes several important elements that help elucidate the site and its history. There is a report of the ancient testimonia for the site (probably ancient Khorsiai), followed by the reports of the early travellers to the region (primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries). The bulk of the volume is a detailed catalogue of the small finds from the excavations, which will be a significant repertory of such objects and valuable for a understanding of the material culture of Central Greece.
John M. Fossey (d. 2024) was Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology at McGill University and Emeritus Curator of Mediterranean Archaeology at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Over a professional career lasting more than 50 years, he was responsible for many years of field work, especially in Central Greece, and the author of numerous publications on that region and Greek archaeology in general.
