This setting of Langston Hughes's poem In time of silver rain uses uplifting melodies and a supportive piano accompaniment featuring oscillating semiquavers and broken chords. The solo cello carries a lyrical melody that bridges the vocal passages. At the end of the piece, singers are instructed to click their fingers to imitate the sound of rainfall.

B.E. Boykin's Silver Rain caught my attention as being a particularly good choice for young upper voices with its focus on the topical theme of nature [ ...] B.E. Boykin sets the Langston Hughes texts so effectively with melancholic yet uplifting harmonies with a haunting, lyrical cello solo that accompanies the voices as well as playing between verses. * Joy Hill, Choir & Organ, March 2024 *
