Leac mhullaigh éachtach é TEASĮRAS GAEILGEBÉARLA ar obair shaoil an śdair, Garry Bannister. Ócįid chinniśnach staire ķ i leith staidéar na teanga agus a cultśir. Is leabhar tagartha é nach bhfuil a mhacasamhail ar fįil inniu. Taifead cuimsitheach é a nochtann scéimh, solśbthacht, doimhneacht agus stair na Gaeilge, bronnta ar an saol mar thoradh ar an taighde fhairsing chrķochnśil atį déanta ag Bannister.

Cuimsķonn an Teasįras seo comhchiallaigh, cleachtaķ agus nósanna cainte, comhcheangail fhocal, leaganacha logįnta agus seanfhocail. Léirķonn na hiontrįlacha sa Teasįras seo peirspictķochtaķ śra nach mbeifķ ag sśil leo sa teanga faoi mar a bhķ sķ inné agus mar atį sķ inniu. Is įis an-śsįideach ar fad do stór focal an śsįideora iad na liostaķ atį breactha de réir téama ar feadh an leabhair. Anuas ar sin tį cuntas nuįlaķoch ar oibriś na Gaeilge nua-aoisķ curtha faoinįr mbrįid i dTreoir Ghramadaķ i gcśl an leabhair.

Cuireann TEASĮRAS GAEILGEBÉARLA saibhreas suntasach nua le corpas téacsanna tagartha na Gaeilge. Acmhainn įisiśil, riachtanach, is ea ķ,  agus taisce dhothomhaiste do chainteoirķ, scrķbhneoirķ agus iriseoirķ, dśdair, daos dįna agus do lucht foghlama agus, go deimhin, do dhuine ar bith a dteastaķonn uathu slacht, snas agus snoiteacht a chur ar a scileanna teanga idir labhairt agus scrķobh na Gaeilge.

IRISHENGLISH THESAURUS is the stunning culmination of Garry Bannisters lifes work and a milestone in engagement with the Irish language and its culture. It is a reference book like no other, a meticulously researched record which captures the beauty, agility, depth and history of the Irish language.

Entries include but are not limited to translations, synonyms, usages and colloquialisms, common word combinations and proverbs. Every single entry reveals fresh and often surprising perspectives on contemporary and older usage. An original and innovative grammar guide offers leaner and more accurate descriptions of how the language is used. Lists of thematically grouped vocabulary appear throughout the book as an extremely useful tool for language-building and prose writing.

IRISHENGLISH THESAURUS is a significant addition to the corpus of reference texts, an essential and indispensable resource for speakers, authors, poets, journalists, students and teachers, and, indeed, for anyone wishing to enrich and develop their spoken and written Irish-language skills.

Nķl amhras ar bith nach bhfuil toirt agus téagar sa Teasįras Gaeilge-Béarla a thiomsaigh Garry Bannister. Is breį go deo an leabhar ķ. -- Seosamh Ó Cuaig * Tuarisc * If a thesaurus is typically a book or electronic resource that lists words in groups of synonyms and related concepts, the Teasįras does this and more. In fact, if anything, it is more like a one-stop-shop for the Irish language or Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Irish But Were Afraid to Ask ... Part of the pleasure of the Teasįras is losing oneself in the endless possibilities of the language, as the headword kickstarts a stream of associations... . A crucial contribution of the Teasįras is showing how a fuller knowledge of Irish offers opportunities for seeing in a deeper, more context-sensitive way.  * The Irish Times *
