This student edition is an abridged version of the (much more expensive) 2007 full edition, which is cited in Resources for College Libraries. The 11th edition student version is updated from its previous 2000 publication. Bassler (architecture, Iowa State University) provides practical information for students preparing for professional practice; the book is divided into three substantial sections of building elements, materials, and issues of contemporary practices. Each section contains a multitude of chapters on related topics, and appendices include topics such as construction information systems, CAD standards, graphic symbols, and mathematical data. The book is liberally illustrated throughout with thousands of useful black-and-white charts, diagrams, and plans. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
