With the rapid pace of technological change, the traditional once-a-decade updating of the foundational manuals of Society of American Archivists (SAA) no longer meets the needs of archivists wishing to learn the most current state of practice. Hence, the inauguration of the Trends in Archives Practice series by the SAA, which provides current status updates to the foundational materials. This first volume in the series is intended to complement the 2005 volume Arranging and Describing Archives and Manuscripts, by Kathleen Roe. It contains three modules, which discuss standards for archival description, processing digital records and manuscripts, and designing descriptive and access systems.
