A July 2006 workshop celebrated the contributions of professor Piet Groeneboom, of Delft University of Technology, to the fields of statistics and probability. This volume, containing papers presented at the workshop as well as other contributions, serves as a festschrift for Groeneboom. Some topics covered include a Kiefer-Wolfowitz theorem for convex densities, model selection for Poisson processes, confidence bands for convex median curves using sign-tests, and Marshall's lemma for convex density estimation. Other topics addressed include asymptotic oracle properties of SCAD-penalized least squares estimators, critical scaling of stochastic epidemic models, additive isotone regression, and Talagrand's convex hull concentration inequality. Cator is affiliated with Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. There is no subject index. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
