Joe De Graft, also known as Joseph Coleman de Graft, was a prominent poet, playwright, writer, and educator born in 1924 in Cape Coast, Ghana.

In between years of teaching, De Graft attended the University of Ghana. He was later appointed director of the Ghana Drama Studio and, in 1965, moved to the University of Nairobi where he developed their UNESCO-sponsored theatre arts programme. De Graft worked as an associate professor at the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana until his death in 1978.
