Is your library so engaged in keeping current with technology that it has overlooked bringing the arts into the community? Collaboration with community arts organizations can be a key factor in the success of cultural programming in libraries. Learn about noteworthy and successful programs serving diverse communities and populations, to get ideas for your own environment.

This resource for public and school librarians describes library programs in literature and the visual, performing, and mixed arts. Some of the programs profiled include projects with children in the research library, developing regional heritage music collections, adult literacy programs and art, using student talent to create appealing library posters, and The Big Write In, a collaborative outreach event for writers during National Novel Writing Month. The book's final section on management and administration addresses issues such as funding, collaboration, and the legal and contractual aspects of bringing exhibits and presenters into the library. The book includes a list of websites for finding programming ideas and resources online, plus b&w photos of real participants and posters. Editor Smallwood has written books on library outreach and management. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
