The novel "Captain Phillips" by Richard Phillips deals with the themes of piracy, globalization, and the Marines. The events of the novel revolve around the hijacking of the American cargo ship Marske Alabama, by a group of Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden off the Somali coast. The ship, led by Captain Richard Phillips and twenty navigators in the Gulf of Aden, was on its way to the port of Mombasa in Kenya, where it was transporting a load of supplies destined for... Kenya, Somalia and Uganda. This unarmed ship was attacked by four Somali pirates.Captain Phillips received many bulletins about recent hijackings in the waters in which he sailed, and he chose to maintain his course, in an attempt by Richard Phillips to arrive faster, despite the warnings directed to ships in this area, and the direct warning that Phillips received. He did not hide Phillips learned that there were kidnappings in the area he was going, according to what was stated in his memoirs, and Phillips represented him that there was contact between him and the US Navy in order to intimidate the pirates. According to his memoirs, he lowered his voice in order to convince the pirates - who were listening to him over the radio - that a helicopter was on the way to them, but in any case, this attempt did not succeed in intimidating them. The pirates arrived at the ship on a small boat and were able to board it. After failing to control the ship, the pirates were forced to flee on a lifeboat, but they kidnapped and held Captain Phillips hostage to obtain a ransom. However, after four days had passed that Captain Phillips spent as a hostage, snipers were able to carry out operations. US Navy Special Edited by Capt. Captain Phillips was medically examined by a naval nurse. It was as if he had actually woken up from a state of hysterical killing and seemed to be delirious in disbelief that he had truly survived the snipers who were pointing a gun at his head the entire time. Former US President Barack Obama described Captain Phillips as brave and a man who should be emulated by all Americans
