The Cascade Mountains - after which the region is named - run north from California to southern Canada and include two of the fastest-growing cities of North America: Seattle - in the United States - and Vancouver, British Columbia - on the Canadian side of the border. The views from either city are of mountains, snow-covered volcanic peaks, forests, and oceans. In the midst of these jewel-like settings are two vibrant cultural hubs, home to full-time symphonies, opera, ballet, and independent film companies - as well as flourishing youth cultures.
