This two-volume set provides a study of Rome and its coinage. Volume I, History of the Roman Empire, contains 13 chapters based on individual epochs from Sulla through the death of Julias Nepos. The biographies are arranged chronologically until the death of Jovian in A.D. 364, after which two chapters cover the Eastern and Western Roman Empire. A general introduction (sometimes supplemented with an historical overview, family tree, or chronology table) is given for each period. Volume II, Coinage of the Roman Empire, presents a general introduction to the coinage itself, with sections on denominations, deities and personifications, determining the dates of coins, obverse and reverse types, mints and mint marks, and determining market value. It also contains a coin catalog that lists coins and their market values. The volumes include many b&w illustrations of coins. Vagi is a deal, broker, cataloger, researcher, writer, and consultant on ancient coins. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Recenzijos

"Students of Roman history, as well as beginners, will find much of value... All in all, these volumes are two of the most impressive works of reference to come along in many a day. In their field they are already on the way to becoming classics." -- Reference Reviews
