"The three volumes of MS Harley 2253 present a complete edition and translation of a fourteenth-century English manuscript that contains secular love lyrics, contemporary political songs, religious lyrics, fabliaux, saints' lives, and other literary treasures in Middle English, Anglo-Norman, and Latin. The volumes also offer explanatory and textual notes, indexes of first lines, manuscripts cited, and proper names, and bibliographies." --
The 14th-century manuscript is a trove of love song lyrics, religious verse, political songs, four fabliaux, lives of three Anglo-Saxon saints, satires, comedies, debates, collected sayings, conduct literature, Bible stories, dream interpretations, and pilgrim guides. Fein and her team have edited the pieces in Middle English, French, and Latin and added Modern English translation in parallel columns to present a modern scholarly three-volume edition. This second volume contains the booklets three and four of the original seven along with explanatory and textual notes. Each volume is paged and indexed separately. The full contents of the manuscript are listed in an appendix. Medieval Institute Publications is at Western Michigan University. Annotation ©2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
