An encyclopedia that Babin (English, Louisiana State U.) and Harrison (English, Mississippi College) decided was necessary when they were taking a graduate seminar on composition theory. Taking the 1960s as the beginning of composition studies, they profile leading scholars and researchers, their areas of interest and expertise, and their major contributions. They also briefly sketch scholars and teachers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose work influenced the field.
