Scholars from China, Africa, India, Pakistan, Korea, and Japan explore ways in which Eastern and European university structures can learn from each other. Section I lays out the philosophical parameters of the dialogue. Section II looks at the relation between the university and the global media networks. Section III discusses evaluation across cultures and types of institution. Section IV deals with historical challenges to the university within Eastern culture, and Section V examines the university's openness to indigenous knowledge. This work is a dialogue on alternative approaches to knowledge and higher education characteristic of the Western University. Western scholars approach these issues from the viewpoint of the challenges facing the university and Eastern contributors explore parallel issues in their societies.
