Interdisciplinary contributors in nursing, mental health, religious studies, and management, from Cardiff University and other UK organizations, chart 40 years of change in health care professions and attendant values within the context of the British National Heath Service. Some authors approach the subject of changing values through empirical case study analysis or interviews with contemporary professionals; others use a documentary, literary, sociological, or historical approach. Topics addressed include professional identity formation, mental health nursing, and genetic counseling. Each chapter concludes with responses from other senior health care practitioners. Material originated at a July 2008 seminar held at the London headquarters of the Nuffield Trust. The book is of interest to academics and health care professionals and managers. Pattison is professor of religion, ethics, and practice at Birmingham University. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
