Ferry (Alpert Medical School at Brown U.) presents a work that combines the information contained in a traditional textbook on clinical diagnosis in medicine with the visual imagery of a color atlas, reasoning that recognition of disorders from illustrations remains crucial to early diagnosis and treatment. Classical examples of common medical disorders are treated in detail and rare disorders are also included for the purposes of differential diagnosis and because they are frequently referenced in medical literature and on medical bard exams. The material is presented in sections covering skin and subcutaneous tissues; brain, peripheral system, and muscle; eyes, ears, nose, oral cavity, and neck; chest, mediastinum, and diaphragm; cardiovascular system; lungs; digestive system; kidneys; genitourinary tract; female reproductive system; endocrine and metabolic systems and nutritional disorders; musculoskeletal system; blood; and infectious diseases. Each section follows a similar format, which consists of an initial description of the normal anatomy and physiology followed by diagnostic tests and procedures, and descriptions and illustrations of various disorders pertinent to that section. The atlas contains some 3031 color illustrations and some 100 tables, boxes, and algorithms to aid in the assessment and diagnosis of clinical disorders.
