This book explores the ecology and evolutionary dynamics of fungi. It focuses on identifying new metabolites extracted from endophytic fungi through genetic methods and bioassay-guided isolation. Detailed procedures for producing fungal endophyte metabolites for commercial use are also discussed. This book covers the diverse traits of fungal endophytes and their interactions with host plants, providing tactical insights into how these organisms can be utilized to their full potential in pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications.

This interdisciplinary reference is suitable for students and researchers in fields such as materials science, biology, plant science, microbiology, plant physiology and biotechnology. It is also useful for agri-food environmental scientists and agrochemical companies. In addition, the book offers valuable information for industrial scientists working on the synthesis and application of fungal secondary metabolites in plant science.

Dr. Kamel A. Abd-Elsalam is currently working as a research professor[ SA1]  at the Plant Pathology Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Giza, Egypt. Kamel earned his PhD in molecular plant pathology from Christian Alberchts University of Kiel, Germany, and Suez Canal University, Egypt. Dr. Abd-Elsalams research interests include developing, improving, and deploying plant biosecurity diagnostic tools, and understanding and exploiting fungal pathogen genomes. He also works on developing eco-friendly hybrid nanomaterials for controlling toxicogenic fungi, plant diseases, and agroecosystems applications. He has published 20 books related to nano-biotechnology applications in agriculture and plant protection.

Prof. Synan F. AbuQamar is currently working as a professor in United Arab Emirates University. He obtained his PhD from Purdue University, USA, in 2007 and did his postdoctoral work there in 2008. He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Synan won the prestigious Khalifa Award for Education in 2020, and Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Technology and King Hamad Prize for Agricultural Development in 2023.
