Earlier drafts of the papers presented in this volume were heard at a 2012 conference organized by the Swedish Network for European Legal Studies. The 18 articles are organized according to the following broad themes: methodology in the elaboration of private law principles, the constitutionalization of private law, horizontal direct effect, and competition law and general principles. Of primary consideration, as stated in the introductory essay, is the "enormous potential of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights...when it comes to relations between private parties."
