In this accessible text, Gee (literacy studies, Arizona State U.) explores learning theory in the context of video game experience and design, using the metaphor of video games as a recent technological model for mental processes. The book is introduced by an interview with the author laying out the parallels between game experience and real-world learning. Moving through essays about the brain, stories and context, problem-solving and challenge structure, technology and the digital participation divide, and the role of mentors and peers in learning, the book gradually builds to a suggested model of teaching and education based on game interactions and the way they train successful behavior while keeping players invested.
