Niall Hyland is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology at University College Cork in Ireland and a Funded Investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland. Dr Hyland has over 20 years experience in gastrointestinal physiology and enteric neuroscience and his fields of interest include enteric physiology and pharmacology, the brain-gut axis, and microbiota-host interactions. He received a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Ulster and PhD in Pharmacology from Kings College London. Dr. Hyland was a visiting fellow at the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Louisiana State University Medical Center, USA and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Calgary, Canada. He returned to Ireland in 2007. He has represented Ireland on the Steering Committee of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motilty and is an Honorary Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society.

Catherine Stanton is a Senior Principal Research Officer at Teagasc Moorepark Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Ireland, a Research Professor at University College Cork, College of Medicine and Health, and one of the original PI of APC Microbiome Ireland. Her research program addresses development of innovative dairy foods and probiotics that influence human health and the developing gut microbiota in early life. She has led numerous national and international grants, including the coordination of a number EU projects on various aspects of probiotics for human and animal applications.
