This book situates the development of 20th and 21st century Chinese art in such fundamental contexts as Chinese politics and social change and is ideally suited for readers to understand the particularities of Chinese art that are distinct from Western art history. Lü Peng is an eminent art historian, historiographer, critic, and curator. Born in 1956, he served as an associate professor for his alma mater, the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, in Hangzhou. He is now a professor at the Macao University of Science and Technology, as well as at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He is Doctor of Letters from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. He is the author of several books on modern and contemporary Chinese art history and artist biographies. He is also the curator of several biennales in China.
