This book features a range of animal subjects to draw including cute cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, squirrels, bunnies and more.

There are 28 pages of two color step-by-step line drawings, plus a finished image in full color. There is one subject per page and the sequences are not overly complex.

The method of illustration is simple: basic geometric shapes evolve, stage by stage, into the finished forms. In order to make the sequences easier to follow, the artists use different colored pencils for each of the stages. The colors act as a guide, with new shapes built on to old shapes, and distinguishing features are added as the images develop. The penultimate stages show tonal representations of the subject, and the final stage is a full color image of the finished drawing.

The drawings are designed to inspire and will act as a starting point to help the reader capture their unique creative flair.

Learn to draw your own manga animals by following the simple steps in this latest entry in the popular How To Draw series.  As with all these books each drawing is broken down into a series of eight or nine steps with a little a more added at a time.  You can see which parts are new because they are drawn in a different color, thus you progress from a few basic shapes to the finished line drawing, and then add color.  If you are a total beginner at drawing anything you will wish that there was more than one stage for the coloring process dealing with shading etc, but anybody who has previous art experience and wants to try something new will not have a problem.  Even beginners can learn by example and certainly the drawing part is particularly easy to follow in this title; copying the rest ought to teach something and is the way I learned to draw thanks to good old Walter Foster.  There are twenty-eight different animals to choose from, all drawn in the realistic manga style rather than the more exaggerated chibi style and range from the cute to the more sinister.  From the cute panda, penguin, gecko, lion cub, pigs and koalas to a crocodile, tiger, lion, shark and wolf there is a wide range of animal types, shapes and poses to attempt.  As with all the books in this series the only words are in the index and single page introduction; the drawing projects speak for themselves.  A useful and user-friendly entry in this series. * myshelf.com *
