JIM HILLIER, who died in 2014, was Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Film and Television Studies at the University of Reading, UK. He was a pioneer of film education in the UK. His publications include, as co-author, '100 Documentary Films' and '100 Film Noirs' in the BFI Screen Guides series (2008); American Independent Cinema (2001), The Film Studies Dictionary (2000) and Howard Hawks: American Artist (1996). Peter Wollen taught film at UCLA, USA. He was the author of several books, including Signs and Meaning in the Cinema (1969, 2012), the BFI Film Classic on 'Singin' in the Rain' (1992, 2012) and was the co-writer of Michelangelo Antonioni's film The Passenger (1974).
