Greenspan and Gershwin focus on clinical and pathologic correlations with the findings found on the radiographs, scintographic studies, computed tomography scans, magnetic resonance images, and the array of newer diagnostic modalities. They integrate the use of different imaging modalities in diagnosing various arthritides and arthropathies, stressing the application of conventional radiography as the most effective means of demonstrating an articular abnormality and making a specific diagnosis. Recognizing that clinicians in several specialties deal with rheumatism, they have tried to keep the discussion as general as possible.
