Ione Saldanha (19192001) was a highly influential though underappreciated figure in the history of 20th-century Brazilian art. Her paintings on canvas and paper, as well as more unconventional surfaces such as wooden slats, spools and planks, depict the perpetual invention and reinvention of the city.
