George Nassau Clavering, III Earl Cowper (1738-1789), better known in Italy as Lord Cowper, is a prominent figure in Florence and friend of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo. A wealthy Englishman who arrived in Tuscany in 1759 as a stop on his Grand tour, he remained there until his death. He did not hold any diplomatic office, but enjoyed high regard at the court.
