The Lexical Approach has become required reading for anyone interested in the current state of ELT. It develops current thinking, synthesising the best insights of previous theory, corpus linguistics, discourse analysis and modern approaches to grammar.

The principles of the Lexical Approach are that, among other things, the grammar / vocabulary dichotomy is invalid, collocation is used as an organising principle, successful language is a wider concept than accurate language, the Observe-Hypothesise-Experiment cycle replaces the Present-Practise-Produce paradigm, most importantly that language cosists of grammatacalised lexis and not lexicalised grammar.
