Course Elements:
The Fluency Book is the primary source-book for the students. Its purpose is the presentation of new topics, language and vocabulary through a continuing story. It is an inviting story book, it includes stickers. Students are encouraged to read and re-read it throughout the year. The Fluency Book is supported by Posters, and by an Audio cassette or CD with a dramatised version of the story.
The Language Book contains reading, writing, listening and grammar, it recycles and extends the vocabulary and structures introduced in the Fluency Book.
The Practice Book provides ample individual practice opportunities either for the classroom or homework.
Mary Bowen taught English as a foreign language in England, France, Spain and the former Yugoslavia. She specialises in producing coursebook and audio materials for younger learners. Her publications include Way Ahead, English World and Macmillan English. Louis Fidge is passionate about the importance of quality primary education, and literacy in particular. He has over forty years' experience in primary education, including as a principal of a primary school in the Middle East. Louis is a widely published author of children's text books in the UK and is involved in curriculum development and teacher training internationally. He is co-author of the groundbreaking primary coursebook, Macmillan English. Liz Hocking taught English at secondary level in the UK and has many years experience as an editor of ELT course books and other teaching materials for primary and secondary school students. She has written material for the best-selling Macmillan primary course, Way Ahead. She was one of the authors of the ground-breaking primary course, Macmillan English, and is one of the author team of the 10-level course, English World. Wendy Wren BA PGCE MA is a successful and highly respected author of best-selling primary and secondary courses for UK schools. She has taught in both primary and secondary schools in the UK and primary schools in Zimbabwe, as well as a college of higher education. Her teacher training and lecturing has taken her to many parts of the world.
Printha Ellis taught English as a foreign language on four continents, including extended periods in southern Asia and northern Africa. Following an honours degree in English, she was granted masters degrees in English Literature from Leeds and, more recently, Applied Linguistics from Birmingham. She also worked as a writer-in-residence at two British Council summer schools held at Durham University, based on the themes of authenticity and innovations in ELT. Printha worked on more than ten coursebook series aimed at levels from kindergarten to adult. Most recently, she collaborated on a major secondary course for Europe, as well as a large Macmillan primary initiative for China. In the course of her career, she wrote a number of highly-successful courses for Macmillan including Surprise, Pyramid and Way Ahead, and Move Ahead. Printha died tragically in September 2004.
