Kalen, a fan of manga and anime who recently graduated from the master of library and information science program at the U. of Western Ontario, Canada, provides a guide to Japanese manga and anime, Korean manhwa, and Chinese manhua, for readers and readers' advisors. Organizing chapters by their main demographics (for instance, Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, and Josei manga) and genres from action to mystery to romance, she covers all major manga and anime formats and genres, key titles for children, teens, and adults published from the early 1990s to the present, and their plots, grade level, and awards. Animanga, original English-language graphic novels, art books, series and character guides, how-to-draw manga books, types of animation other than anime, and live-action movies based on anime or manga titles are excluded.
