"Contains an interview plus 45 columns dealing with such topics as book-burning, genocide, government secrecy and repression, cataloging, indexing, Banned Books Week, classism, self-censorship, and free speech for library staff"--Provided by publisher.

The ordinary person might think that library cataloging could hardly be political, but Sanford Berman's columns in the The Unabashed Librarian (or U*L as it is often known) certainly were. Whether commenting on antiquated or even biased Library of Congress subject headings, or the proper role of libraries in opposing the Patriot Act, they were always at the very least interesting. Beside the 45 reprinted columns, this book contains a 10 page forward with personal details about Sanford, such as his ongoing penchant for using manual typewriters. The introduction consists of a 2005 Counterpoise interview. Annotation ©2013 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
