Experienced Naval officers describe both the physical and operational structure of the Pentagon and offer advice on interacting with other agencies, working with civilian teammates, conducting a program review, writing a speech, understanding the budget process, pursuing graduate education, taking mass transit, and finding housing. The 20 chapters explain the responsibilities and functions of the Navy Staff, the Navy Secretariat, the Joint Staff, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, White House staff, and Congressional committees. A list of acronyms and a few black and white photographs are provided. Annotation ©2020 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)

This practical guide advises officers of all paygrades, experience levels, and warfare communities on life and work in Washington, D.C., and in the Pentagon, in particular.

As naval officers transition to rewarding and challenging jobs ashore, Naval Officer's Guide to the Pentagon offers a valuable helping hand along the journey. This practical guide advises officers of all paygrades, experience levels, and warfare communities, as well as Navy civilians, on life and work in Washington, D.C., and in the Pentagon, in particular.

The book is a user-friendly "one-stop-shop" for information, offering insights from successful officers with varied warfare community backgrounds who have served in the Pentagon and in Washington in a range of staff roles. Tailored to naval officers but useful to civilians interested in better understanding the demands and lifestyle of working at the Pentagon, Naval Officer's Guide to the Pentagon will be a positive addition to the professional libraries of naval leaders past, present, and future. In particular, the book explores the history of the building, its construction, and how to navigate its miles of corridors; examines the service, joint, and secretariat staff that are headquartered in the Pentagon; explains some of the staff jobs that may be available to officers seeking to work in the Pentagon; explores some of the governmental branches, agencies, and other organizations that exist in Washington with whom officers at the Pentagon may interact; and describes recreational and other personal opportunities that exist in Washington that may be of interest to naval officers, civilians, and their families.

Recenzijos

The U.S. Naval Institute Press is releasing a guide to working in the Pentagon in November 2019 that is worth a read. This one is the best one Ive seen by far, as it was written by those who have recently held front office positions for senior leaders, and the chapters are broken down by major functional roles on a major staff. Guy Bus Snodgrass, author of Holding the Line: Inside Trump's Pentagon With Secretary Mattis
