First published in 1985. In the 1930s the Labour Party undertook a deliberate search for a viable economic programme to introduce a democratic socialism to Britain. Against the background of the economic turmoil of the period, a group of young economists working for the party thrashed out the theoretical and practical implications of the Keynesian revolution, the planning controversies and the new market socialism.
