One-hundred & eighteen contributions discuss how the noninvasiveness and superior time resolution of neurosonology makes a variety of ultrasound techniques in the diagnosis of carotid, vertebrobasilar occlusive and other cerebrovascular diseases useful, including the recent growth of new techniques such as three- and four-dimensional sound imaging. However, currently used imaging techniques for the measurement of cerebral blood flow, like PET, SPECT, and functional MRI have superior spatial resolution; therefore combinations of these techniques with neurosonology are examined. The papers are organized into eight sections on: carotid and vertobrobasilar occlusive disease, clinical impact of ultrasonography and imaging techniques, transcranial color-coded duplex ultrasonography, detection of cerebral emboli, echo contrast agents, evoked flow and functional testing, cerebral autoregulation testing, and cerebral monitoring. Most are selectrions from the Symposium on Cerebral Hemodynamics held in association with the first meeting of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics (date and venue not noted); a few additional review articles are included.
