On the 60th anniversary of the International Military Tribunal (IMT) at Nuremberg, a conference was held in Nuremberg to examine its legacy in historical and contemporary terms. This work contains 33 presentations from that July, 2005 conference, opening with four papers examining US, UK, Soviet, and French motivations and activities in participating in the trials. Other contributions examine such issues as the trial's inadequate grappling with the Holocaust, the failure of the Tribunal to include the voices of victims in its proceedings, post-World War I precedents for war crimes tribunals in Germany, the reasons for choosing Nuremberg as the site of the trial, war crimes trials conducted following the conclusion of the IMT (including the Israeli trial of Adolf Eichmann), German attitudes towards international criminal law in the years following Nuremberg, and connections between Nuremberg and more recent international criminal courts. Also included are personal memories of the Nuremberg trials from a former member of the US prosecuting team and memories of the liberation of the Nazi extermination camp at Dachau. All of the material is presented in both English and German. The book was published on behalf of the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, with additional editorial assistance provided by Walter R. Hippel. Annotation ©2007 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
