"Emerging contaminants are the compounds characterized by a perceived or veridical threat to the environment or human health with a lack of published health criteria. An "emerging" contaminant may also be identified from an unknown source, a new exposureto humans, or a novel detection approach or technology. Emerging contaminants include an extensive array of synthetic chemicals in global use, such as plastic additives, PAHs, perfluorinated compounds, water disinfection byproducts, gasoline additives, pharmaceuticals, man-made nanomaterials, and UV-filters, which are significant for the development of modern society. Because of their rapidly increasing use in industry, transport, agriculture, and urbanization, these chemicals are entering the environment at increasing levels as hazardous wastes and non-biodegradable substances. Furthermore, adequate and robust epidemic information on their behavior and fate in the global environment, as well as on human exposure, serum and tissue concentrations, and threats to ecological and human health, have not been well documented. Therefore, present book emphasizes on the comprehensive information on emerging contaminants overview, environmental occurrence, analysis, risk assessment and toxicity assessment. Environmental, legal, health concerns of the ECs have also been offered in this book. An updated status from industrial point of view has also been presented in this book"--

Preface. Emerging Contaminants in the Environment: Introduction. Recent Updates and Estimation of Emerging Contaminants in the Environment. Occurrence of Emerging Contaminants in the Environment: Causes and Effects. Occurrence and Fate of Emerging Contaminants with Microplastics: Current Scenario, Sources and Effects. Challenges and Strategies for Degradation of Microplastics in Environment. Environmental Toxicology, Fate and Risk Assessment of Emerging Contaminants. Recent Advances in Modification of Biochar for Removal of Emerging Contaminants from Water Bodies. Life Cycle Risk Assessment and Fate of the Nanomaterials: An Environmental Safety Perspective. Technologies for Treatment of Emerging Contaminants. Modern Applications and Current Status of ECs in the Industries. Legal and Safety Issues of ECs. COVID-19 and Plastic Pollution: Health, Environment. Index. About the Editors.
