In the visually compelling Open Innovation Works: Successfully Leveraging your External Ecosystem for Impactful Change, best-selling authors Diana Joseph, Dan Toma, and Esther Gons explain the complexities and challenges of implementing effective Open Innovation strategies and how they can be surmounted.

We are living in dynamic times. Large organisations must develop new technologies, businesses, and service models to stay alive while striving for execution excellence in their legacy operations. This is easier said than done. While large organisations have tremendous financial, material, and talent resources, they are also limited by regulations, policies, processes, hierarchy, incentive plans, and sheer size. As a result, it’s very difficult for them to truly and wholeheartedly explore new technologies, strategies, services and business models through their internal innovation teams alone. One important solution is Open Innovation: operating in an external ecosystem, through mutually beneficial engagements with entities carrying different assets and different limitations.
