Paediatric Nursing Skills for Australian Nurses is the first Australia-focused, dedicated paediatric skills text for undergraduate students. Integrating the theoretical and clinical components of nursing knowledge, the authors outline the clinical skills needed in the care of children and young people. The journey begins with an introduction to communication - an essential skill for any paediatric nurse - before exploring crucial topics such as mental health, nutrition and medication. These discussions are presented in connection with the latest national competency standards for registered nurses to help equip readers with these necessary abilities. Pedagogical features include case studies, clinical tips and reflection questions to encourage active thinking and analysis of key concepts. Each chapter concludes with a set of review questions, a research topic and a list of recommended readings to consolidate student understanding. Paediatric Nursing Skills for Australian Nurses is an essential resource for pre-registered nurses within the Australian paediatric setting.

Elizabeth Forster is a registered nurse and Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith University, Queensland. Her teaching experience includes undergraduate general and paediatric nursing, and post graduate paediatrics and child health. Her clinical interests and experience includes acute paediatrics and PICU. She co-edited the text Paediatric Nursing in Australia (Cambridge, 2014) with Jennifer Fraser, Donna Waters and Nicola Brown. Her research interests include paediatric end of life care, developing student nurses' bereavement support skills and paediatric pain. Jennifer Fraser is a registered nurse and Associate Professor in Nursing at the University of Sydney. Her research activities support the relationship between research, policy and practice in paediatric and child health nursing. She studies ways to reduce child behaviour problems, prevent child abuse and neglect, and improve paediatric and child health care nationally and internationally. Her research in the area of child maltreatment prevention has contributed to ongoing implementation of home visiting programs throughout Australia as well as to developing health workforce capacity within Australia and internationally.
