The objective of the workshop was to facilitate the sharing of current work in Somali language studies, encompassing both strictly linguistic matters and more practical matters in language use. Nine papers consider such topics as the nature of the Somali noun phrase, grammatical gender and number in Somali nouns, a platform for a bilingual French-Somali dictionary, language use of Somalis in Dollo Ado refugee camps: a sociolinguistic study of communication, and metre and "extrametricality" in the geeraar.
