Considering the high degree of unpredictability between letter and sound in English, this book simplifies the learning of pronunciation and the phonological description of English, and puts it within the non-native learner's reach. Thus, a series of rules that govern the variation in the pronunciation of letters, syllables and words is provided in order to improve the speech of learners. This is of great importance to teachers and learners of English as a second or foreign language. This book also discusses research methodology in relation to the domain of phonology. This will help learners to not shy away from specialising in phonology. In this vein, the book elaborates on phonological research methods, techniques, approaches and theories. The book ends with a series of exercises with corrections that allow users practise pronunciation and phonetic transcription.
