The first edition was published in 1972 as Tutorials in Postgraduate Haematology (William Heinemann); and the fifth edition was published in 2005. This sixth edition has four editors: A. Victor Hoffbrand (emeritus, University College London), Daniel Catovsky (emeritus, Institute of Cancer Research, UK), Edward GD Tuddenham (University College London), and Anthony R. Green (Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, U. of Cambridge, UK). They've incorporated the considerable advances of the last five years, particularly in oncology, and yet, with careful editing, have managed to maintain the size of the volume by combining some of the older chapters. Fifty-two contributed chapters begin with coverage of stem cells and haemopoiesis, erthropoiesis, iron metabolism and disorders of haem synthesis, iron overload, and megaloblastic anaemia; the collection concludes with primary immune thrombocytopenia, haemtological aspects of system disease, and of tropical diseases, and neonatal haematology. The contributors are from Europe, the US, and the UK; readership will also be international. A companion website offers figures and tables for downloading as well as interactive multiple-choice questions prepared by the authors. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

The textbook of choice for trainees in haematology

Over five editions Postgraduate Haematology has built a reputation as an extremely practical, user-friendly, reliable source of information for examination preparation and clinical practice. Completely revised to reflect the latest research in the field, this edition continues to provide trainees with up-to-date knowledge on the pathogenesis, clinical and laboratory features, and management of blood disorders. It covers the significant advances which have occurred in the application of cytogenetics and molecular genetics in the diagnosis, classification and understanding of haematological disorders.

Coupled with the expertise of 34 new contributors from across Europe, the editors have been joined by Professor Anthony Green, from the University of Cambridge, and they have reorganised the book into 52 accessible chapters.

Postgraduate Haematology is richly illustrated throughout with over 200 colour illustrations including line drawings, photomicrographs of blood cells and tissues, and algorithms to help aid treatment decision making. It is an indispensable resource for trainees and an essential read for all specialists who are interested in updating their knowledge.
