Written by one of the UK’s leading equine veterinary practitioners, this textbook is dedicated wholly to the veterinary management of the racehorse. The Racehorse: A Veterinary Manual brings together all the major orthopaedic and non-orthopaedic conditions likely to be encountered in racehorse practice and concisely details state-of-the-art ‘best practice’ for diagnosis and management. The book spans the full range of fields relevant to the clinician, including topics as diverse as rehabilitation, respiratory medicine, exercise physiology, pre-purchase and ‘herd health.’

Well-illustrated and comprehensive, it succeeds in being both practical and firmly evidence based, making it an invaluable resource for clinicians worldwide as well as a useful reference work for many non-veterinarians in the racing industry.

Recenzijos

" an excellent, singular resource for thoroughbred racehorse problems." Jonathan Hale Foreman, DVM, MS, University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine for Doody's Review Service

"Razman has consciously created a text based more on evidence than anecdote [ He] provides a practical and objective source of veterinary information, pertinent to the thoroughbred racehorse, that is accessible not only to the racehorse clinician but also others within the industry, who will find it a useful, if not indispensable, reference work." Harriet Scott in European Trainer

"contains a fairly exhaustive list of conditions relevant to racehorses a great quick reference for equine practitioners, especially recent graduates, and should be in the truck of any practitioner who examines and treats racehorses." Omar Maher, DV, DACVS, DACVSMR, in JAVMA

Pieter H.L Ramzan was raised in Australias Hunter Valley. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1994, he worked in the Kimberley region of north-west Australia before moving to the United Kingdom in 1996. A period in first opinion large animal practice in the West Country followed, until in 1998, he joined the racing team at Rossdales, one of the largest equine veterinary facilities in Europe, becoming a partner of the practice in 2005. Piet maintains a busy schedule providing a comprehensive racing veterinary service to some of Newmarkets largest training yards, as well as attending major international Thoroughbred sales. He has published and lectured widely on Thoroughbred orthopaedics, respiratory disease and equine dentistry, and is a past recipient of BEVAs Richard Hartley Clinical Award. Piets clinical research interest is the early detection and improved management of racehorse orthopaedic injuries.
