From the preface: "The two scholars in correspondence are Raffaele Pettazzoni (1883-1959), virtually the foremost scholar of religion of the twentieth century, and Herbert Jennings Rose (1883-1961), a leading Canadian-British expert in Greek and Roman religion and folklore." The two worked in collaboration and maintained a friendship for 36 years. This volume contains 218 letters, some in English, but most in French. An extensive introduction sets the context. The correspondence between Raffaele Pettazzoni and Herbert Jennings Rose (1927–1958) sheds light on the behind-the-scenes activity of two great modern scholars and provides an interesting perspective on the history of religions in the first half of the twentieth century.

Recenzijos

"(...) a detailed analysis of the material present in the letters, which is reproduced in full and has an impressive apparatus of notes that explain and comment on the smallest of details, leaving nothing unexplained (...) This is a veritable book within a book, in which Domenico Accorinti gives ample proof of his erudition and philological diligence."

-Natale Spineto, University of Turin, History of Religions 59, 2020.

"Brill's production is sumptuous and enviable, as well as close to impeccable."

-Graham Anderson, Universķty of Kent, Canterbury, UK. In: Folklore, Vol 126, issue 2, 2015.
