Why Rethinking Language Education? The pace and magnitude of changes in education since the mid-1980s, from the introduction of the National Curriculum for schools to the benchmarking of literacy and numeracy attainments, have been truly breathtaking. This collection of papers grew out of the discussions at a seminar of the same title at Royal Holloway, University of London, involving a group of people actively engaged in language education.
Rethinking Language Education highlights the need to understand the educational potential of all language learners and to find ways of motivating and encouraging young people of diverse social, cultural and linguistic background to realise their potential.
