BOOK 1 OF THE RUNES OF WAR SAGA

The adventure begins…

Torra Alta is under attack.

Threatened by a new ice age, the barbaric tribes of the vast Northern Trunda join forces under the bloody rule of warrior chief Morbak to form the Vaalakan army. As they set out to achieve dominion of the world, only the frontier castle of Torra Alta stands in their way.

For a thousand years Torra Alta has stood triumphant and unconquerable, perched on a pillar of rock where dragons once had their lair. As Baron Branwolf prepares his defences, ominous sounds emerge from the labyrinth of dragon-built tunnels beneath the castle. Against the baron's orders, his son, Caspar, accompanies the party despatched to seal off the tunnels. When Caspar discovers an ancient dragon’s hoard of treasure, the magical light of a moonstone proves too tempting and Caspar takes it.

But alas, it is no ordinary moonstone – it is the Druid’s Eye, and if it falls into the wrong hands, Morbak will be invincible. Only the long -abandoned Runes of War can save Torra Alta, and only Caspar with his newfound power, can find them …

In The Runes of War, Jane Welch masterfully blends elements of thrillers, fantasy, and historical fiction to create an epic tale of suspense and action. The mythical creatures and the quest for the Runes of War make it a top pick for readers.

PRAISE FOR JANE WELCH

A blockbuster fantasy SFX

As intriguing as anything Tolkien dreamed up. Starburst

Wonderful author, in the Robert Jordan mould The Bookseller

Jane Welch was born in Foremarke, a hamlet in the very centre of rural England, exactly where more than a thousand years ago the Viking Great Army camped for the winter. Their forces were led by three of Ragnar Lothbroks sons, including Ivar the Boneless.

Jane spent her childhood either at Foremarke, or in the remote coastal wilderness of the Scottish Highlands. In her younger days, she spent five years in the Pyrenees teaching skiing with her husband, surrounded by the magic of those ancient mountains.

Sine then, Jane has written nine fantasy novels, which form the Runespell series. The novels carry the echo of these wild places so dear to her heart. Presently, Jane is excited to be working on a new series, originally inspired by a climb to a Mediterranean lighthouse and looking down at an ancient harbour below.

Jane lives in beautiful Devon on the south west coast of England with her family and their noble dog, Odin.
