Looking for a way out of their humdrum lives in the outskirts of Glasgow, straight-laced Sean, fresh from dropping out of uni, and the gallus Daro, overflowing with charisma and business 'acumen', reckon they can be the dream team of frozen treats.
Following in the footsteps of their business heroes Bannatyne and Branson, full of tall tales and cunning plans, and fuelled by Irn Bru and baccy, the two go from the heady heights of summer to the perilous cold of winter in their slightly clapped-out van of destiny. A touching and comedic two-hander by Laurie Motherwell, following friends Sean and Daro as they purchase an ice cream van and try to make their dreams of financial success come true.
Laurie Motherwell is a Glaswegian playwright whose work has been developed through the Traverse Young Writers programme and Breakfast Plays, and his first major play Sean and Daro Flake it Til They Make It premiered at the Traverse Theatre in April 2023. Laurie was the Tron Theatre Resident Writer in 2023, where he developed a new play called The Grand Sun Shines Eternal. He has worked with other organisations such as the National Theatre of Scotland, An Tobar and Mull Theatre, Macrobert Arts Centre, and Paisley Book Festival. In 2019 Laurie was a recipient of a New Playwrights Award from the Playwrights Studio, Scotland. Laurie is a graduate of the University of Edinburghs MSc in Playwriting and a proud member of the Scottish Society of Playwrights.
