Social Design is a term with a wide range of meanings: from Whole System Design, Regenerative Design, Sustainable Design and Service Design to Green Urbanism and Urban Metabolism. All of these design concepts are driven by the desire to reduce the human impact on our planet. Above all, these concepts share the motivation for taking responsibility, as well as taking position. " Social Design : Public Action" enlarges this definition by introducing a series of practices, tactics and speculations presented by international experts in the field. The book reviews the contributions to the Social Design : Public Action international symposium held at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2 3, questioning the transformational power of new forms of the social, political and cultural within the urban realm. It aims at connecting artistic research and scientific knowledge with hands-on spatial production, interweaving the discourse into the very fabric of society.
