A guide to the collection of song books in the Enoch Pratt Free Press Library, Baltimore, Md., dating from the early 20th century. The index is an outgrowth of a database of about 160,000 entries and is a long-term project of the Library's Fine Arts Department. While it does not index every song book, it does attempt to index every type of anthology, including collections of songs in other languages (African, European, Native American, and Asian.) Arranged alphabetically by title of song, each entry includes the name of the composer, alternative titles, and the bibliography number of each book in which the song can be found. The bibliography is in alphabetical order by either the editor or title of the book and contains publishing information. The composer index lists two types of entries full names, when available, or last names. Finally, the source index lists larger works from which the songs originated.
