This basic book was prepared in support of a low-level civil engineering course the author taught at the university for years. The idea is that construction projects require the participation of engineers, surveyors, and contractors. Whether it is a building, a bridge or a pipeline, customers have the expectation that the result is going to be precisely at the right location, orientation, slope or level, and elevation. For that, engineers, surveyors, and contractors will have to interact in such a way that those expectations are met. The knowledge of specific basic words, concepts, and methods used by surveyors will greatly help engineers during this interaction.
